Are there butterflies in your garden this year? Naturalists all over the UK are worried that there are far fewer butterflies this year than last. Maybe they’re delayed? Or affected by the weather? Or struggling to find food plants? Or unable to cope with pesticides?
You can can help the experts to find out what’s happening – the Big Butterfly Count starts today and ends on 7 August, and everyone is asked to help.
All you need to do is to count the butterflies in your own garden. You download a sheet of butterfly pictures, watch for 15 minutes, noting what you see, and send in your results.
All the information you need is on Butterfly Conservation’s Big Butterfly Count website. Do take part – your help really makes a difference!

FYI: there is also an app, you can click on a picture of a butterfly and you can click record your sighting if you allow the app to use your locations.

Thanks Nick – the app is good, isn’t it? I’ve used it before. Do share what you spot on iNaturalist! Sarah
