Over the next few days we are expecting ideal weather to spot butterflies. Why not join the Big Butterfly Count?
Its simple! Between Friday 16 July and Sunday 8 August choose a place to spot butterflies and moths. Watch for 15 minutes.
Then record which species you see. Go to Big Butterfly Count (butterfly-conservation.org) or download the APP and record your sightings. To help with identification you can download an ID sheet with the most likely butterflies. On the website there is also an interactive map where you can view all of the sightings in your area – at the moment most people are seeing only 3 or 4 types of butterfly in their 15 minute slot – I saw Small and Large White , Gatekeeper and one I didn’t know , Ringlet.
